VASSILIS KONTOGIANNOPOULOS was born in Amaliada in 1942. Varvakeion graduate, studied law at the University of Athens. Postgraduate studies in International Commercial Law at the University of Paris and European Studies at the Center for European Studies at the same university. Was actively involved in the student movement and was elected member of the Board repeatedly Law Students.
His return to Greece coincided with the Junta. Constantine Karamanlis, which was associated with a personal friendship in Paris, he was invited to participate in the 1974 elections in Ilia, where elected MP until 2000.
In 1976 he was sworn in Deputy Education Minister Karamanlis government and then the government Rallis. Participated in coalition governments under Tzannis Tzannetaki as Minister of Education and the Coalition Government under the methods and policies as Deputy Minister of Education Minister Costas Simitis. The Government Mitsotaki served as Minister of Education and then Minister of Industry, Energy and Trade.
1998 expelled from New Democracy. In 2000 accepted a proposal of Costas Simitis, joined PASOK was elected deputy in Region B Athens. Participated in the last Government Simitis as Deputy Minister of Health and Welfare.
He is married to Matilda Manolikaki and has one daughter.
